Pintspiration #3

I think this is more like the 300th idea that I've found on Pinterest, but they aren't all a success. Which means, they don't get documented.

I found this idea forever ago, bought the faux leaves at Michaels in August and then never got around to it. The hubby reminded me that my favorite season was quickly passing me by and I needed to get on it. I don't think it hurt that the leaves were hanging on the closet door that contains his motorcycle helmet, thus being in his way and encouraging his encouraging behavior.

I printed out the letter in a poster format in Word in Bookman Old Style bold font. The Mr traced it on plywood and cut it out with a jig saw. I painted the backside and edges with leftover red paint and hot glued the leaves on the front. The whole project only costed about $5 for the faux leaves the rest was leftovers from other projects. I even had the ribbon in my ribbon stash.

I love how it turned out! Happy Fall! The best time of the year!

Bellyography

At everyone's request- more belly pics. Weeks 19-23! He's growing bigger in there, that's for sure! I am loving all the kicks and jabs. He seems to be most awake shortly after I get to work around 8-10 am and when I am laying in bed at night around 9 pm.
Glenn's current squadron- VAW-120- it has a 20 in it at least!

Kicking

Baby boy Smith has been kicking like crazy and last night, Glenn got to feel it for the first time too! I just wanted to document this quick so I remembered the date. Random Smith family fact, Glenn also told me he loved me for the first time on the second of the month, but that was December 2nd, 2004.

We were laying in bed last night and he was kicking the same spot on my side so I told Glenn to cram his hand between my belly and the mattress. I think he was surprised he could feel it cause I got a "woah" and a smile. :)

Glenn is a constant tapper / mover / figiter and I think his son is going to be pretty similar!

To work or not to work?

Now that I am visibly pregnant (busted out the maternity pants today for the first time! Side note, dang, these things are comfy. Might want to wear them after January) people always seem to ask the same few questions.

1. When are you due?
2. What are you having?
3. Are you going back to work?

Well, our son is due on January 22, 2013 and yes, I plan on going back to work. I PLAN on it. As in, right now, I think I will, but come January/February/March, I may have changed my mind. Glenn and I are very lucky that the Navy is a steady and dependable income that we can live off of. We can pay all our bills with his income, just perhaps, a few less home improvement projects and flights back home.

I like work though. I like making a little extra money and keeping busy. Although, I'm pretty sure a baby will keep me busy enough as well.

We've checked out a few daycare centers in the area. Some we liked, some we didn't. We are on a waiting list for one near the house, but the waiting list is 9-18 months (!). There is a second that I think we like even more that is just down the street from my office. I like the idea of being able to stop by during lunch to feed the baby or being just 2 minutes away if something were to happen. It's not as convenient for Glenn's job, but with him being gone every few months, it makes more sense to be near my office.

I've thought about working less than 40 hours per week as well and I think my office will let me work from home when necessary or a day or two a week.

Or maybe I'll just stay home with my little babe and hang out with several of my Navy spouse friends who are also stay at home moms. That sounds appealing at times too!

Here is a picture we got at our 20 week ultrasound last month. I'm not sure when our next ultrasound will be or if we'll even have another one at the dr's office, but he's looking less gummy bear like and a little more baby like!

Booked!

I just booked tickets for a trip to Mexico!! Glenn's buddy and groomsmen in our wedding, is getting married the day after Thanksgiving in Mexico. I'll be 31 weeks pregnant so we figure it might be one of our last trips for awhile. Plus our passports haven't gotten any stamps in almost a year! That is a shame.

A wedding, babymoon and thanksgiving all in one! I can't wait! Now if only I could go diving... I suppose I'll have to stay on the surface while Glenn scuba dives. Does a big ol baby belly help you float?

Nursery Ideas

We've started gathering a few things for the nursery already. I'm so excited to get started, but I've never had a room that I could just start from scratch so it is a little intimadating! We've always had a piece of art or furniture that we were working in to the room.

We purchased a dresser on Craigslist a few weeks ago. It has sat in the soon-to-be-baby's room since we bought it and I haven't looked at it much. I still need to give it a good scrub.

I also purchased a rug this week and I can't wait for it to arrive!
And somewhat unrelated, I also purchased this little guy for our little guy's newborn photo shoot. Eek! I can't wait to put it on him!
So you can see a general color scheme that I am going with. I am gather inspiration from these three designs. I plan on keeping the blue curtains that are hanging in the guest room now and adding some bright and colorful artwork. Perhaps some vintage travel posters. Perhaps fun monster type characters or a colorful world map.

I am thinking the walls will be a medium/dark gray color similar to the First Little Mate board. We might put a little nautical twist on it...I guess I'll have to wait and see what I find!

We have a book case in the room now that will remain, but I think it will be getting a face lift. More on that another time. I also plan on getting an IKEA arm charm and making it in to a rocker a la this hack. We need to buy some sort of ottoman/poof/stool as well.

Oh and I forgot to mention that our super sweet friends gave us a crib (& mattress & car seat last weekend!). It is a white spindle style crib that is going to look very sweet in the room. I can't wait!

Any ideas or suggestions for art work?

A Baby Boy

I guess all the wives tales and gender predictor tests were right! We are having a baby boy!

I had my 20 week ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday morning. I gave Glenn two days after he was suppose to return from the aircraft carrier to make it, but such is life in the Navy, you've got to be flexible. He didn't make it back because of various reasons. He did return Wednesday night though.

I decided it would be more fun to find out together so I brought my friend Gizelle to the appointment with me. She recorded a few videos of the ultrasound and she found out the gender before we did! She put the "those" pictures in an envelope and gave me the rest.

The pictures were in my purse all day, but I didn't peek! After work I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things for our celebratory dinner including a small cake that Gizelle had ordered for us.
Of course, we couldn't wait until after dinner to cut the cake. Cake appetizer anyone???
Blue frosting!
I finally made the announcement on facebook as well since so many friends are all over the world and we don't get a chance to talk to them very often. It's official: "Baby Smith will be making HIS debut January 22, 2013!".

We are very excited! Glenn is going to be an amazing Dad and well, I'm going to learn! I got pretty lucky with that guy and now we're going to have a son that I hope is just like him.

We have not decided on a name as of yet. There are a few that we like, but I'm sure a few more will be thrown in to the mix before he is born.

I'm still not used to saying he is moving or he is kicking, but he definitely is. I started being able to feel it and notice it even more over the last couple weeks. I think I could feel it a week or so before that, but I didn't realize what it was. I can't wait til Glenn can be able to feel it to!

Glenn @ Work

Glenn was gone the last couple weeks and I got a single picture out of the deal. That's one more than I usually get though! Probably because someone else insisted they take a picture. Just wait til this baby is born, Mr, I'm going paparazzi around here.
Glenn is right in the middle. Looking as handsome as always. Have I mentioned he has lost 20+ pounds? I'm so very proud of him. Although his timing is suspect...just as I'm packing on the pounds.... :)

You look good, Mr!
