A Birthday Party

These are some old pics, but I was just thinking how long it's been since I've seen my buddy, Marcy. Working all day sure does have it's downfalls. She has days available and I only have nights and with baby Isabel, our schedules just don't fit. It stinks.

Having kiddos sure messes with your social life, huh? A few weeks (months?) ago though, the in-laws were in town and we all got to hang out!

A few weeks ago, some friends stopped by Norfolk enroute to tour the US visiting family before they moved to Germany. I'd almost forgotten about this picture until I've seen a few of their first pictures of Germany on Facebook! Mike and Toni were stationed with us in Japan and are doing another overseas tour. I'm a little jealous of their European tour. Maybe someday!

While they were in town we got together with a few other Norfolk Liberty Bells. It was fun to reminisce! Good luck in Germany Ross family!

Drag Yourself to Brunch

I haven't uploaded pictures to my computer in forever. I have over a hundred from events over the last month or so, but let's start with the most outrageous. A few girlfriends and I went to a lovely Sunday brunch out near the beach. We had a few mimosas, some delicious food and enjoyed the show. Clearly, the drag show.

Four dancers in lovely homemade costumes entertained us for several hours with the 80s and 90s best hits.

We laughed most of the time and felt bad for the few guys that braved the show. When we left in the bright afternoon sunlight we decided that an evening show with a few more drinks would be even better. Luckly, Croc's Bistro has a show on Saturday nights, once a month. 

We might have to make a girls' night out in the future and then hits the beach bars!

I'm a little behind with my blogging. I just don't feel like getting behind a computer at home after sitting behind one all day.

Congrats to Nate and Megan on he birth of their twins, Henry and Zoey! Check put the link on the right for adorable pics!

I like my new job. There is always a lot of work to do which I really like. There is a lot to learn still but I'm starting to get it. As soon as my steel toed shoes get here (converse no less!) I get to go out on some of the boats to see what we do. Which is testing, installing, servicing shipboard firefighting systems.

Dave and Jen get here tomorrow night! I can't wait to have family visit!

Chris and Gizelle, our Japan neighbors, are coming for house hunting leave this weekend. They are moving here in April.

Glenn is home and won't go out of town til may/June.

I'm not working Thursday or Friday and Glenn gets most of that time off too because of a base exercise.

Curtains?

My new office is right around the corner from Target. Dangerous. I found myself wandering the aisles during my lunch break today. I came home with these. What do you think?

I can't decide if they clash with the duvet cover or not. I kinda like them. I guess I'll leave them like this til Glenn gets home. Hopefully tomorrow!

Wordless Wednesday: Master Closet II

Employed!

I got a call while I was at the airport last Friday and was asked to come in for an interview on Monday. I honestly didn't even remember much about the company since I have applied for so many and applied for this job back on January 17th. I had to come home and do a bit of research. Oddly enough too, it was one of the jobs I applied for on Career Builder. No, it wasn't the job where I was #1426, but I was #155.

I guess they hired someone else but it didn't work out. Well, I interviewed this morning and they offered me the job on the spot! I start tomorrow! I'll have a whole day of work before I even have a chance to tell Glenn! He's out on the ship for a few days.

I guess I won't be painting the living room for awhile, but at least we'll have some extra money to buy the paint.

Thank you Hiller Systems for hiring a mil spouse (and knowing it)! Finding a job as a mil spouse with 3 states, 2 countries and a 3 year "gap"on my resume was pretty difficult. I did take a pay cut for the new job, but it seems like there are opportunities for growth at this company.

I think Stella is going to take it the hardest! Glenn and I haven't both been working (not at home) full time since 2008 before we moved to Japan!

Connor & Brooke

I got to spend the week with my 2 year old niece and 6 year old nephew. They crack me up. Here are a few pics from the week!

My favorite is Brooke in the fold out couch. That was while we were furniture shopping. Brooke was done apparently!

Illinois

I've been busy in Illinois helping Adam and Laura set up their new house. I think we've been pretty productive with getting pictures on the wall and curtains on he windows. We even managed to unpack a few boxes!

Shelves

When I made the trip to IKEA a few months ago, I bought a pair of these white shelves and silver brackets for the upstairs bathroom, but I quickly realized that we don't need them up there so they have sat in the spare bedroom for awhile. I decided a few weeks ago that they would be better downstairs. I love the extra color that the accessories add. I've since added another picture to the empty frame from my trip last summer to Miyajima. The red torii gate looks perfect!

I found the red wire basket at a thrift for down the street for $1. It holds the extra towels perfectly and the boxes contain Qtips and floss and other extras. They were a gift from a friend in Japan.

The white shelves were actually about 6" longer, but Glenn took the jig saw to one end and cut it down to fit. The brackets for these shelves are great because they cover the entire end so you can't see the crooked cut at all! Now I just need to find a new mirror and we will have one room finished! One!

The other pair of IKEA shelves went in the dining room. When we unpacked the kitchen, I realized a bit, just how much Japanese pottery I purchased. My kitchen cabinets couldn't hold it all. Plus, it's all so pretty, I wanted to enjoy it!

The two shelves were centered above the bar and between the windows. I went with black because most of the frames on the opposite wall are black as well.

It has since been rearranged and added to about 10 times, but I like that they are accessible and I can change the color or decor out with each season. I found the plate stands in the Target dollar section. Yes!

The orange bento box on the bar contains our foam coozys and barware. I wish I had hung the bottom shelf a bit lower, but considering the massive holes that had to go in to the wall for the anchors, that shelf won't be moving! I love seeing the dishes mostly because they remind me of Japan and all the fun I had buying them. I think 80% were purchased with my friend, Kristy. Miss you, friend!

Glenn had a few friends over last weekend while I was out enjoying a ladies night and one of the guys even commented how much he liked me knickknacks. I think that is definitely a compliment!

Waiting

Stella is waiting near the door during Glenn's usual arrival time. Sorry baby girl, it'll be a few days. I think she likes him better than me. ;)

More like dog though....somehow when Glenn is gone, Stella gets all the extra space.
