A Beautiful Day for Baseball: Baystars vs. Swallows

A few weekends ago, we headed to Yokohama to attend our first baseball game of the season. I love cheap beer, super fans and good friends.

Every team seems to have their "thing". In Hiroshima, it was the balloons. Apparently for the swallows, it is mini umbrellas.

After the game, we met up with some other friends (and a fellow twins fan!) and headed to a new restaurant near the stadium.

The chef is American. AND an American who knows how to barbeque. His brisket was fantastic!

I am loving the spring weather this year. Good food. Good times. It's great to have my mister home!

Baystars Baseball Game

Glenn had a list of things he wanted to do and food to eat before he left on deployment. We were able to get to a few things on his list as well as a few on my list too! See a baseball game was one of those things for Glenn. I think he's missing his Twins and that new stadium. As soon as he got done with work last Saturday, we hit the train station and headed to Yokohama. The Baystars got crushed, 3-12, but it was a beautiful day for a game.

The day before mom and dad left we headed to Yokohama to cheer on the Baystars against the Hanshin Tigers. The Tigers are some pretty die-hards fans, but we were excited that the Baystars won 7-2.

I've blogged about Japanese baseball before so I won't go in to too much detail. It was a beautiful day for a baseball game though. A beer and chu-his. We had a lot of beer and chu-his.I showed my students this picture of the fam and they were like, "Kerry, you're drunk." Yes. I kinda was. The Japanese interchange Rs and Ls. They have a hard time pronouncing our names. Kerry and Grenn. Meh. Close enough.Mom liked the car that drove the new pitcher from the bullpen to the mound. They even sat on the little platform and waved like they were in a parade or something. Gotta love Japan!

Yokohama Baystars

Glenn got out of work at noon on Saturday (yes working on Saturday!) since he was at work til midnight the night before so we met up with some friends and headed to Yokohama to see the Baystars play the Tigers! It was a beautiful day for a baseball game and it was even better with the company we had.
This is the song sheet. Each player has a chant/song that you sing the entire time they are up to bat. We sang along with the ones that had english words!Glenn enjoying Japanese baseball snacks. His dumplings even came with a tiny tiny bottle of soy sauce. Tiny things are cute, what can I say?!After the game we went to a restaurant in Chinatown called Mr. Navy. The restaurant barely held the 12 of us it was so tiny. The restaurant is filled with CVW-5 paraphernalia from the past several decades which was fun to look and and find names of Ltjg's at the time who are now back in Japan as skippers.You can see that we barely fit in the restaurant, but the food and beer was delicious!
