Snow Day!

It's been cold lately and last night we got 4 or 5 inches is snow with a 1/2" of crusty ice on top! It made for fun sledding down the front yard!

These Virginians don't own a sled or snow shovel so we made a garden shovel and bubble wrap (seriously). Lincoln wasn't a huge fan of sledding but walking around in the snow seemed to be a hit. Sliding down the hill on his belly was a hit, too. I'm sad that Daddy missed the fun (and yummy brunch with friends!).

He's stuck on the carrier since the Hawkeyes are covered in ice and the base/runways (and everything else) in Norfolk is closed.

We're going to attempt snow ice cream after dinner and hope we can get out of the house tomorrow!
Also, these cheeks!

Really Virginia?

There was a winter weather advisory last night and 2 hour delays this morning. It was 36 degrees when I went to work and this was the only snow I saw in my yard.

You would have thought a super storm was coming our way!

Snow day!

This is the first time it's ever snowed this hard here! It's nothing for you Minnesota folks but a nice change for Japan!
Well, actually we had two days like this! One on Friday night and one on Monday night. Because of the snow last night (which has turned in to a sunny beautiful 40 degree day) both of my classes tonight were canceled. One last night in the midst of the storm, but one this morning. Maybe it's because I grew up in Minnesota, but I just don't get it. It was about an inch of snow last night, but now it's just mushy wet puddles. Oh well, now I can make it to a dear friend's farewell party! Thanks snow!

Snow!

The Kanto plain area actually got some snow last night! Today it is wet and melty, but it's kinda nice to see a little snow.
Stella was not a fan at all though. Wherever she could walk to avoid the snow- she would.
A nice way to start February!

Snow in Minnesota

My mom sent me this picture of their backyard from yesterday! I don't remember the last time it snowed before my birthday. I remember many Halloween snow storms, but never my birthday. The trees are still all green!
I am not ready for winter yet, I am just enjoying fall. Japan has beautiful weather right now for those that are thinking of visiting next year! It is "kego hunting" season around here as my Japanese teacher calls it. Kego are the changing leaves so they go search them out just to look at them. Very similar to hanami season in the spring- cherryblossom viewing.

I woke up this morning to....

SNOW! UGH!
But also a phone call from Glenn! He is doing well and excited that he is no longer the FNG (F#!*ing New Guy) because a new pilot flew on shortly after they left Guam.
So it is officially winter now in the North. It was 70 degrees on Monday and Tuesday so I am not very happy about this change of weather. I don't think Stella is either. She's never been a big fan of the cold.

Happy Friday everyone!
