An extra day

We got a huge snow storm in Illinois yesterday which made driving the hour and a half to St. Louis a little difficult so we called Delta and moved my flight to tomorrow for free. School was cancelled too so I got an extra day with my family!

While Lincoln was napping, Connor and I built a snowman. Makes me miss the snow a bit!

Really Virginia?

There was a winter weather advisory last night and 2 hour delays this morning. It was 36 degrees when I went to work and this was the only snow I saw in my yard.

You would have thought a super storm was coming our way!

Sandy

Glenn and I made it home to Virginia from Minnesota last night after two cancelled flights and a 5 1/2 hour drive.  Our house is fine, just a ton of pine needles and leaves everywhere. We were expecting a few puddles in the basement, but we didn't have any!

Our original flight from MSP to Philly was cancelled on Saturday so I rebooked through Charlotte (with a complimentary first class upgrade!) but while we were in the air to CLT, our flight to Norfolk was cancelled as well.

The next flight out was Tuesday morning so rather than pay for a hotel and losing a day of work, we rented a car and drove the 330 miles home. It rained the entire 330 miles, but wasn't terrible. A few spots and strong winds, but it was relatively smooth.

We picked up our car at the airport, picked up Stella at our friends and headed home. It was a long day! Thanks for asking how we were doing. The house faired our first hurricane pretty well and we got to miss most of it!

A Good Idea

Shortly after Glenn and I moved in, we switched out the old thermostat with a new programmable thermostat. I am SO glad that I thought to take a picture of the wires before I unhooked them because maybe if you hook it up wrong and then have the coldest day of the whole year, you will wake up to a 50 degree house the one night you have overnight guest. Apparently, that little white wire turns on the auxillary heat. I'm just saying, that might happen and then your sad little puppy will look like this.

Typhoon Roke

I'm sitting right in the middle of the orange horizontal band. It's gonna be a rainy, windy day. I wish Glenn were here.

Are you here to stay?

Is my most favorite season of the whole year finally here? Is fall ready to stay? The last few weeks we've had several 90+ degree days and it surely did not feel like the autumn season I know and love. I feel like I've been jipped out several weeks of my already short-lived season.

Look what I got to wear today to lunch with my student! Boots! AND a jacket! Together! Two of my most favorite things ever.
Stella seems unimpressed, though. Please stick around fall! I've missed you!

Since this will be my second (and last!) fall in Japan, I hope to be able to enjoy it thoroughly. I want to see the leaves change and enjoy the cool weather.

My student also pointed out that there is a typhoon coming and that might be the cause of the 10 degree temperature drop yesterday and the 24 hours of rain, but I'm choosing to think that fall is here to stay!

A Perfect Saturday

My hubby is home still.
Beautiful weather and a picnic in the park.
Afternoon naps.
Enjoying our time together while we still had it. Miss you baby.

Spring is Here

I am loving the weather here and all the flowers- and how I figured how to do the in focus in the front and fuzzy in the background thing. Pretty good photo-lingo there, huh?
